Echols Scholars do so much outside the classroom
The University of Virginia and the Echols Scholars Program are full of bright, passionate, and supportive individuals who will undoubtedly enrich your college experience; and we know that you will do the same for others if you join our community. People tend to say that Echols Scholars are academically well achieved and that is the sole characteristic that defines them. While it is true that Echols Scholars are smart and academics is a priority for them, an Echols Scholar is always so much more. Echols Scholars are involved in the arts (like a capella groups which UVA is known for), athletics (varsity and club), and many clubs around Grounds. So many Echols Scholars are exploring the world in study abroad programs and global research programs. They are leaders across Grounds, active citizens that are building projects and campaigns to help communities, visionaries doing research in so many different fields, and people who push the boundaries of what is possible to make a difference in the world around them. Echols Scholars are passionate about whatever they choose to do and curious to learn more and to do more. There is no one Echols student which is why there are no set restrictions and requirements to be one. Wherever you go on Grounds and whatever you do, you’ll probably find another Echols Scholar there because we are all involved in so many different ways. You were selected to be an Echols Scholar because the University believes that you will be doing the same when you get to Charlottesville.
There is so much more to Echols than the perks that come with the program, so we hope you will jump in and enjoy them. Wahoowa!
